SsangYong Musso Wins the Double

SsangYong Motors UK is delighted the Musso short-bed pick-up has won 4x4 Magazine’s “Best Value” pick-up award for the third year in a row – and this year its long-bedded big brother scoops the added accolade of “Best Individual Model”.

On Musso’s win of “Best Value” pick-up, Alan Kidd, editor at 4x4 Magazine, said; “The pick-up market is laden with good-value trucks but none of them can match Musso for its combination of low purchase price, high specifications and stout towing and carrying abilities.”

“The Musso’s interior finds the holy grail by being the most SUV-like of any pick-up truck and it is laden with kit. It is much more than a cheap truck – and for the third year in a row, it’s the best in the business in terms of value for money.”

The Musso pick-up, which arrived in the UK in 2018, shares its body-on-frame construction to give an extremely strong vehicle that delivers excellent off-road driving performance and safety from its quad-frame and four-wheel-drive system.

Designed to carry passengers in comfort and transport loads securely, the SUV-based Musso combines a five-seat crew-cab body style with a workman-like load deck that will take a full-sized Euro pallet. Importantly, it also carries a payload of over 1-tonne and tows trailers of up to 3.5 tonnes concurrently to give the highest total load capacity in the segment. The combination of utility pick-up and SUV means Musso offers the perfect blend of functionality, practicality, performance and high specification comfort to the driver and family or workmates. These same qualities are now available in a long wheel-base variant in the guise of the Musso Rhino, which adds an additional 300mm to its bed length.

The SsangYong Musso Rhino has won the ‘Best Pick-up for payload’ category in the 2021 What Car? Car of the Year Awards.

Commented Steve Huntingford, editor of What Car? "The Musso Rhino is the best pick-up there is at doing what pick-ups are ultimately designed for: hauling stuff about. However, it's also good to drive and live with, because its 2.2-litre diesel engine is impressively refined, and there’s a smart interior with tactile materials. You even get a best-in-class seven-year, 150,000-mile warranty.”

In 2018, the SsangYong Musso was totally revamped, and a new generation was borne – Musso is now smarter, safer, and more stylish than ever. It had a complete re-design from the ground up, and now, in 2021, the only thing in common with its’ predecessor, is its name.

Musso is a superb multi-purpose truck with SsangYong values to the core - comprehensively equipped, a class-leading 7-warranty, a surprising level of interior refinement and great infotainment, all wrapped up into a value for money package. Such recognition from What Car? against such strong competition speaks volumes about the Musso.”

Musso short-bed scores a hattrick winning “Best Value” pick-up three years in a row, and we are delighted that our new long bed Musso Rhino has been recognised too as “Best Individual Model”. Musso is one of the toughest, all-round value for money pick-ups on the market - it even boasts a sector leading 7-year/150,000-mile warranty.”

SsangYong Musso Scoops Diesel Car & EcoCAR Magazine's "Best Pick-Up" 2020

SsangYong’s Musso has been voted “Best Pick-up” in the DieselCar & EcoCar Magazine’s Car of the Year 2020 Top 50 Awards for the second year running.

The go-anywhere SsangYong Musso has already been voted as the “no-nonsense pick-up” by Pick-up & 4x4 pro magazine and “Best Pick-up under £25k” by WhatCar? Magazine also for two consecutive years. All commentators have been repeatedly impressed by the Musso’s winning combination of build quality, space, refinement, comfort, excellent warranty and value for money.

Diesel Car's journalist judging panel were unequivocal in their remarks: “There are many things to like about the Musso, going far beyond its bargain basement starting price. For a start, it’s surprisingly plush inside, with comfortable seats and a large eight-inch display taking pride of place in the middle of the dashboard. Taking much of its design from the Rexton SUV forward of the load-bed, the back seats have sufficient room for three passengers. The 2.2-litre engine feels potent enough, there’s selectable four-wheel drive, and it can tow up to 3,500kg in newly launched long-wheelbase Rhino guise. It’s our favourite pick-up truck for the second year running.”

In securing this latest award, Kevin Griffin, managing director of SsangYong Motors UK, said; “We’re delighted to win the “Best Pick-Up” in the DieselCar & EcoCar Magazine’s Car of the Year 2020 Top 50 Awards for two years on the trot. Musso has so much to offer in both its short and long bed variants, it certainly disrupts the pick-up market – it’s a tough, strong, value-for-money 4x4.”

Built on the same architecture as the new Rexton which has already been awarded ‘4x4 of the Year’ for three consecutive years by 4x4 magazine - Musso shares its body-on-frame construction to give an extremely strong vehicle that delivers excellent off-road driving performance and safety from its quad-frame and four-wheel-drive system. It’s an extremely competent multi-purpose truck with SsangYong values to the core - comprehensively equipped, an industry leading 7-year/ 150,000-mile warranty with a value for money package, plus a surprising level of interior refinement and great infotainment.

SsangYong Rexton Wins AGAIN!

Hard on the heels of winning the ‘Best Value’ award for its shortbed Musso pick-up truck for the third consecutive year, and ‘Best Individual Model’ for its longbed Musso, SsangYong has collected yet another ‘Best Value’ award - this time for its flagship Rexton 4x4 SUV. The "4x4 of the Year sponsored by BFGoodrich” accolade is awarded to Rexton for an unprecedented fourth year in a row.

Commented Alan Kidd, editor of 4x4 magazine: "By the time a vehicle has won the same award for four years in a row, you might assume that the opposition is beginning to close in. But if anything, the Rexton is accelerating away from the rest in terms of value for money. That’s because it has only put on a couple of grand during those four years. And in that time, its warranty has gone up from five to seven years.

“None of that would mean anything if it wasn’t also a very good vehicle, though. But the Rexton is more than just very good. It’s immensely practical, enjoyable to drive and capable off-road – and at the top of the range, convincingly luxurious.”

"There are still people who avoid SsangYong because it has a funny sounding name. More fool them. Korea’s 4x4 specialist is gaining ground fast – and as the Rexton demonstrates, there are areas in which it’s actually now setting the pace."

Kevin Griffin, managing director of SsangYong Motor UK, responded: “Winning one ‘best value’ award is quite an achievement, but four times in a row is testament to how fantastic Rexton is – we are absolutely delighted! Both Musso and Rexton continue to win awards which speaks volumes about the SsangYong product range. The SsangYong brand has always represented all-round value, which is expressed as low price, high levels of equipment, great build-quality, and a 7-year/150,000-mile warranty. ”
